computing tip - print receipts as PDF / PDFCreator

you've made an online purchase, up comes the receipt / confirmation page with information you should probably save. But you don't want another piece of paper lying around and "save as html page" doesn't strike your fancy.

then save it as a PDF using PDF Creator: http://www.pdfforge.org/

PDF Creator installs like another printer, so you choose it from the printer drop-down menu and you're on your way.

leviton switch 9382 dazor lamp magnifer circline

There is some incorrect information on a few sites about there not being a replacement switch if your push button leviton switch 9382 goes bad on your dazor circline magnifier.

A replacement is available from Dazor, you just need to call in with your model number information and details on the specific switch you need. You'll need a credit card to place the order unless your unit is still under warranty.

Apparently leviton is no longer manufacturing the 9382, but there's another model which is now in use.

update: the item sent to me by Dazor comes with the bulb socket wired on -- to be expected since they charge $23 for the part plus shipping.  The push button switch has a metal button and faceplate on a plastic housing. It reads: sun-lite J-104A / China / E143741

adobe acrobat reader toolbar missing in browser - solution

After several updates (windows 7, firefox, etc)  I realized that I was no longer seeing the tool bar for acrobat reader when a PDF opened within a browser. This is needed to save the PDF locally or to search within the PDF.

to see the toolbar again press F8

Generally I prefer to open a PDF outside of the browser. For some reason adobe reader X is not obeying my preference deselection for "open PDF in browser" in conjunction with firefox 7.

sandwich crime - totally unacceptable

crimes against hoagies? fuck that. taking a man's sandwich is like shooting his dog.

-----------------

Yeadon police were heroes Saturday when they put four po'boys through the grinder for allegedly robbing a Shorti of his meatball sandwich at gunpoint.

Police said the 13-year-old victim had just left Nick's Deli on Church Lane about 7 p.m. when he was approached by two men who had gotten out of a Ford Expedition.

Rashawn Mallory, 21, of Philadelphia, pointed a gun at the boy and said, "Whatever you do, don't move" and "If you do anything, I'll cap you," according to court documents. At the same time, Ernest Barnett, 22, also of Philadelphia, allegedly went through the boy's pockets.

Police said that when the men realized the boy had nothing of value, Mallory grabbed the boy's $5.50 meatball sandwich, and both men ran back to the car.

The robbers didn't even take the boy's cellphone, which he used to call the cops after the incident.

Police quickly found the vehicle and arrested Mallory, Barnett and two other men - Rainey Smith, 21, and Antray Graves Jr., 20, both also from Philadelphia.

Inside the car - which was registered to Mallory's mom - cops found a .38-caliber revolver.

The Beat Generation and the Angry Young Men

Rebels without a cause

A product of the Age of Anxiety, this is today's writer: the HIPSTER, a man without a country -- who digs everything and is shocked by nothing -- whose greatest demand upon society is that it permit him to indulge in his own "kicks" unmolested.

Riotously funny at times, deadly serious at others, often brutal but always pointed, these Beat and Angry young men are the logical spokesmen for our confused and confusing atomic age. Out of its chaos they have fashioned some of the most brilliantly dynamic literature of our time.
